Los vestidos más emblemáticos de Marilyn Monroe se exponen en la Getty Images Gallery de Londres

Deseaba, más que nada en el mundo, ser actriz dramática. Abandonó Hollywood para instalarse en New York persiguiendo ese sueño, pero ni siquiera su empeño por relacionarse con el sector más intelectual de la ciudad de los rascacielos o su matrimonio con el escritor Arthur Miller, consiguieron que Norma Jean fuera considerada más allá de sus curvas de infarto.

Tras su muerte se convirtió en el “sex symbol” por excelencia para el mundo y en auténtico objeto fetichista para multimillonarios excéntricos como David Gainsborough Roberts. No le hubiera gustado.

A pesar de que el American Film Institute -prestigiosa entidad sin ánimo de lucro cuyo cometido es conservar el material cinematográfico y rendirle homenaje- la considera entre las diez mejores estrellas femeninas de todos los tiempos, Marilyn murió azotada por la frustración, al pensar que solo era la rubia preferida por los caballeros de medio mundo. Miller decía de ella que nunca la vio terminar la lectura de un libro y su sensualidad innata fue la mayor enemiga de la imagen seria que ella deseaba ofrecer en su profesión; en una sociedad -la americana de los años ´50 y ´60- marcada por una insufrible doble moral y los prejuicios.

Lo intentó hasta ese último momento, tan dramático como inesperado y turbio. Al final, todas - Ava Gardner, Audrey Hepburn... e incluso Grace Kelly, interpretando el papel de su vida al casarse con el Príncipe Rainiero- encontraron su sitio; pero ella no. La pasión que inspiraba nublaba el entendimiento y la comprensión de cualquier hombre que se le pusiera delante, hasta el punto de no poder verla sino como un provocador objeto del deseo carente de talento, entendimiento, raciocinio o inteligencia.

Sólo una persona consiguió sentir con claridad a esa Norma Jean que a veces era Marilyn Monroe y plasmarla en toda su profundidad; el fotógrafo Milton Green.

Nunca mercadeó con esas imágenes. Green llegó a conocer tan bien a Marilyn Monroe a través de sus posados, que nunca pudo dejar de profesarle un profundo respeto.

 Le hizo cientos, puede que miles de fotografías -la mayoría de ellas inéditas- y ella consiguió ser libre delante de esa cámara. Son imágenes bellísimas de una mujer que nada tiene que ver con la diva presionada por todo y por todos. Tanto, que prefirió desaparecer antes de enfrentarse a tanta incomprensión.

Hasta el próximo 26 de mayo, en la Getty Images Gallery de Londres, Marilyn Monroe estará presente en toda su plenitud con una colección de fotografías excepcionales de sus comienzos cinematográficos, además de una muestra espectacular de los vestidos que lució en sus películas, pertenecientes a la colección privada del excéntrico multimillonario americano David Gainsborough Roberts.

Gainsborough es el mayor coleccionista de objetos personales de Marilyn del mundo, uno de esos hombres a los que les hubiera encantado lucirla como un excepcional trofeo. No pudo ser, pero utiliza todo su dinero y esfuerzos en hacerse con cualquier objeto que un día estuvo próximo a ella. En Londres se podrá ver el espectacular vestifo rojo de lentejuelas que lució en la película “Los caballeros las prefieren rubias”, el de color rosa con el que sedujo al mundo desde las escenas de “Niagara”, el bikini con el que recorrió la playa en una bellísima escena del drama “The Misfits”, con guión de Arthur Miller y rodada en blanco y negro -la última película que rodó Marilyn; o el sofisticado “petit robe noir” de “Con faldas y a lo loco”, de Willy Wilder. Una exposición inédita en Europa que muestra a la Marilyn más popular, mundana e incluso vulgarizada, que no decepcionará a los que prefieren soñar con su sensualidad hipnótica a profundizar en su auténtica personalidad.
